FEMALE CAMP SS-SONDERKOMMANDO RUSSIA SS-ID CARD
Scarce Sonderkommando R Russia SS-identification card for a female guard at the SS camp 'Bluecher,' a resettlement camp in Eastern Russia. The pass identifies the woman as Stella Munke, born 18.12.1910, from Berlin, a photograph of Munke is attached to the ID, stamped 'Der Reichsfuhrer SS Volksdeutsche Mittelstelle,' issued at the main office Special Commando Russia, Berlin, 25. April 1943, and signed by a SS-Untersturmfuhrer. A second entry permits entry to the restricted area with a vehicle, stamped and signed by a SS-Sturmbannfuhrer. One hole punch in the lower left corner, some sunning at the top margin, 2 pages, approx. 4 x 5.75 inches. This is the first such identification we have encountered. With Himmler in charge and the office being an SS-Hauptamt, it was ultimately the SS who had the authority to decide who was German and sent for forced labor and who was to be sent for extermination. Sonderkommando R (Russland), a successor to the Einsatzgruppen, carried out numerous massacres of Jews during the first half of 1942.
