Oregon myrtlewood tobacco jar with tobacco from the desk of Franklin D. Roosevelt. Originally lot 59 in the 12 November 1951 sale at Hammer Galleries in New York City of “Miscellaneous Objects Belonging to the Late President Franklin Delano Roosevelt and Mrs. Eleanor Roosevelt.” Height 5.5” (including cover), diameter 4.75”. Inside is tobacco about an inch high with a half-filled (over .75 oz.) opened bag of “United States Tobacco Company’s Old Briar Pipe Mixture Mild and Aromatic.” Taped to the bottom of the tobacco jar is the circular label, “Collection of President & Mrs. Franklin Delano Roosevelt,” numbered “59” in ink. Very fine condition.
