FDR Bill Signing Pen
"WINNERS WILL BE NOTIFIED AFTER THE AUCTION ENDS BY THE AUCTIONEER ONCE ALL BIDS HAVE BEEN PROCESSED TO DETERMINE THE WINNER FOR EACH LOT."
Presidential pen used by Franklin D. Roosevelt to Sign H.R. 12896 into law. The wooden shaft dip pen, measuring 8'' long, is marked ''Made by Bradley of Brattleboro. No. 32'' and housed in a custom pen clamshell case. Accompanying the Presidential bill-signing pen is a typed letter from Marvin H. McIntyre, Assistant Secretary to President Roosevelt, to the recipient of the pen, Congressman John W. McCormack, dated 17 June 1936 on White House letterhead. McIntyre writes, ''My dear Mr. McCormack: I have pleasure in sending you herewith the pen used by the President on June twenty-second in signing H. R. 12896, An Act to provide for the transfer of the surplus decommissioned lightship numbered 82 to United States Ship Constitution Post, Numbered 3339, Veterans of Foreign Wars. Very sincerely yours, M. H. McIntyre / Assistant Secretary to the President.'' The ''Lightship 82'' to which McIntyre refers, was a vessel intended to keep Great Lake freighters safe by shining a light in the dark waters, as a lighthouse would. Instead of saving others, however, Lightship 82 would sink in Lake Erie during the Great Storm of 1913, and only one body of her crew of six was ever found. Pen in fine condition; 6.25'' x 9.25'' letter in very good condition with light creasing and wear.
