Roosevelt Souvenir of the Atlantic Charter.</B></I> Two pages, 4” x 5”, August 9, 1941, printed on the cover “The Commander-in-Chief United States Navy Sends His Compliments and Best Wishes Franklin D. Roosevelt President of the United States August 9, 1941, printed below the message is the silhouette of a battleship. As U.S. involvement in the European conflict grew increasingly likely, Roosevelt and Churchill convened a secret meeting, held on warships anchored near Newfoundland. The meeting resulted in the Atlantic Charter, a decisive document that set the stage for America's entry into the war. During the meetings, Roosevelt arranged for personal gifts such as cigarettes and fruit to be given to British sailors on certain ships. The card on offer accompanied those gifts.
