(FAIR PLAY FOR CUBA BROADSIDE)
An excessively rare broadside issued by the Fair Play for Cuba Committee, the same group with which assassin Lee Harvey Oswald associated himself with in New Orleans in August 9, 1963. This rare broadside, 11"" x 17"", was printed and distributed by the organization for distribution at, of all places, the 1960 Democratic Convention at Los Angeles, where John F. Kennedy was nominated to run for the Presidency! It reads in part: ""àThe deplorable U.S. record in Cuba goes onàThe Eisenhower administrationàhas declared war on the Cuban revolutionary regimeàThe Castro regime in Cuba, is viewedàas the hope of the futureàTo call it Communist is mere name-callingàThe Democratic delegates assembled here have a great and solemn dutyàenable a new administration to build a constructive program based on social justice, on concern for human rightsàNothing else will do. HANDS OFF CUBA!àDemand that the Cuban people be permitted to work out their destiny just as we Americans insist on the right to govern ourselvesà"" Folds, otherwise very fine condition. In New Orleans in August, 1963 Oswald was arrested and charged with ""disturbing the peace by creating a scene"" after an altercation with three Cubans who wanted to stop him from passing out the leaflets. His association with Fair Play for Cuba would lead many assassination conspiracy theorists to link Castro to Oswald and a plot to kill the President. 2355
