FABRIC SECTION OF VON RICHTHOFEN’S FOKKER TRI-PLA
FABRIC SECTION OF VON RICHTHOFEN’S FOKKER TRI-PLANE DR I 425/17 CONTAINING PORTION OF PAINTED CROSS. A triangular piece of fabric is of particular interest as it contains evidence of the straight style white-edged cross, over-painted on a cross patee of the earlier style. The back of the fabric has the notation “Fabric From Red Tri-plane Flown by Manfred Richthfen Frane 22/4/1918. Collected by Lieut. Malcolm Sheehan 3 Sqdn Aust. Flying Corps.” Carisella received the fabric in 1962 directly from Lt. Malcolm Sheehan. Sheehan was a pallbearer at Richthofen’s funeral. This item is pictured on page 235 of Who Killed The Red Baron? CONDITION: Good. Some paint flaking due to folding and rough handling. SIZE: 10-1/4” x 13-5/8 x 10”. From the Collection of the late P. J. Carisella. 4-53502 (7,500-10,000)
