Jazz Age novelist and short story writer. He is regarded as one of the greatest American writers of the twentieth century. Fitzgerald was the self-styled spokesman of the “Lost Generation,” Americans born in the 1890s who came of age during World War I. He finished four novels, left a fifth unfinished, and wrote dozens of short stories that feature themes of youth, despair, and age. Signed book: Flappers and Philosophers. First edition, later printing. NY: Charles Scribner’s Sons, 1920. Hardcover with dustjacket, 5.5 x 7.75, 269 pages. Signed in ink on the first free end page, “Sincerely yours, F. Scott Fitzgerald.” Toning and soiling to signed page, separation along front hinge, toning and soiling to pastedowns, pencil notation to inside front cover, wear and staining to covers and spine, and light toning, soiling, and creasing to dustjacket, otherwise very good condition. An early, uninscribed title from this desirable literary giant.
