F. Scott Fitzgerald The Great Gatsby. (New York: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1925), first edition, 218 pages, dark green cloth with blind-stamped front cover lettering and gilt lettering on spine, 12mo (5.5" x 7.5"), no dust jacket. Comes in gorgeous green slipcase with marbled boards and banded leather spine with gilt lettering. Early alternate titles for The Great Gatsby included Trimalchio in West Egg and The High-Bouncing Lover. Fitzgerald's uncomfortable glimpse into Jazz Age high society has only grown in popularity over the years, having sold only 24,000 copies in its author's lifetime, and has served as the basis for a number of films, plays, and even an opera in 1999. This copy is about very good, with slight foxing to the edges and two signatures on the front free endpaper. Otherwise, this is a beautiful copy of the scarce first edition.
