F & L Kahn & Bros F Series No. 312 Stove c. 1890
Featured in this lot is this F series no. 312 Wood stove from F. & L. Kahn & Bros, circa 1890-1894. The stove shows wonderful and professional construction and reads “W. P. McCormick” on the front; “Jointless Ashpit patent app'd for” along the side and ashpit; “F. & L. Kahn & Bros” on the back lip; “F Series no. 312” under the front door and the patent dates inside the front doors. Lazard and Felix Kahn moved their stove foundry operation from Hanging Rock, Ohio to Hamilton in 1884. Shortly afterwards, their market greatly expanded to include the entire United States and shipments to Europe and the Far East. The company began making gas stoves in 1888 and the name was changed to Estate Stove Company in 1905. Estate was purchased by RCA in 1952 and then by Whirlpool-Seeger in 1955. They closed the Hamilton plant in 1962. Over the lifetime of the company, they made wood and coal burning cook stoves, gas cook stoves, parlor heating stoves, the more modern Heatrola Stoves, and gas furnaces. The condition of this pot belly stove is fair, with the ring connected to the ashpit disconnected and broken on one tine; otherwise, there are no other obvious signs of damage. The measurements of this wood stove are 20 1/2" x 20 1/2" x 38".
