American pioneer (1830–1928) who traveled the Oregon Trail by ox-drawn wagon as a young man, migrating from Iowa to the Pacific Coast. ALS signed “Ezra Meeker, 93 years old, nearly,” one page, 8.5 x 11, Washington’s Seventy Years of Progress letterhead, October 7, 1923. Letter to Marion Dean. In part: “I have always looked upon the bright side of life and believe this has prolonged my years. That you may continue cheerful and busy and consequently happy is my prayer”; and a 5.25 x 3.25 postcard photo of Meeker in the cockpit of a plane, signed in fountain pen. Intersecting folds with small edge separations and toning to edges of the letter, otherwise overall fine condition.
