(Walt Disney Studios, 1959) Magnificent original production cels and panoramic background from the Oscar-nominated Disney classic Sleeping Beauty, which is highlighted by a custom prepared background hand-painted by Eyvind Earle. The joyous scene shows Prince Philip and Princess Aurora dancing at the end of the film, with their respective fathers, King Hubert and King Stefan, sharing a toast. The Earle background is strikingly rendered, with impressive detail and color given to all aspects of the hall, in particular to the textured walls, column, and patterned floor. The cels are trimmed to 10 x 11.25 (Philip and Aurora) and 11.5 x 12.5 (kings), with the character images measuring 9 x 9.25 (Philip and Aurora) and 7.75 x 8 (kings); the background measures a remarkable 30.5 x 12.5. Double-matted to an overall size of 36 x 18. In fine condition. Accompanied by a copy of a letter addressed to Earle, who affirms that he did indeed paint the offered Sleeping Beauty background.

Disney artist Eyvind Earle was Sleeping Beauty's production designer, and Disney gave him a significant amount of freedom in designing the settings and selecting colors for the film. Earle also painted the majority of the backgrounds himself, and his stylistic influence is readily apparent in the final product.
