(United Artists, 1961) Gouache and airbrush on 6 x 12” 8-ply illustration board, signed by Eyvind Earle (1916-2000), one of the most innovative conceptual artists of the 20th century, responsible for such memorable work as the flattened and highly stylized look of Disney’s Sleeping Beauty, a complete departure from the studio’s long-established brand of design. This wonderful little piece describes the hyper-modern dance of the Puerto Rican “Sharks” gang as choreographed by Jerome Robbins. Excellent, with one tiny pinhole in each corner.
