Side saddles date back to eh 14th Century, England. It was discontinued as a utility (using) saddle in the early 1900’s in America. Many saddles had a large fender to protect the ladies skirts. This side saddleis similar to the one the Pueblo, Colorado saddle makers made for Charles Goodnight’s wife (established Goodnight-Loving Trail). Mrs. Goodnight rode her side saddle on a few of the Texas to Wyoming cattle drives of thelate 1800’s. This saddle was created by W. B. Ten. Eyck, Billings Montana Territory. There is little historical ingormation about this company. His maker’s stamp on both sides of the skirts identify the saddle. The piece is marked “Billings M.T.” for Montana Territory (Montana would only be shortened to Mont. and did not have the MT notation until muchlater unless used in the context as being Montana Territory). Montana became a state in 1889 dating this saddle pre 1888. This saddle is in excellent condition and is a rare piece. The saddle has a 18”-17” seat.
