Extremely rare factory engraved, inscribed and gold plated Colt Single Action Army revolver, .45 cal., 7-1/2" barrel, factory medallion raised carved ox head pearl grips, #342476. This gun is in overall excellent condition showing approx. 95% original factory gold finish with loss primarily on the rounded high side of the ejector rod housing, some slight holster wear at the muzzle, on the top of the front sight and on the bottom of the trigger guard; additionally the gold finish on the barrel shows scattered age bubbling. The bore is fine, the action is crisp, the markings are sharp; the grips are excellent showing a beautiful iridescent color and the carved ox head motif is exceptionally accomplished. The back strap is inscribed "W.R. Fogle, Jr.". Factory letter dated January 8, 1999 confirms all features and indicates shipment to W. R. Fogle, Jr. on August 30, 1921, one gun in shipment. According to documentation with this lot, the gun descended through the Fogle family to a Texas collector. W.R. Fogle, Jr. was a Ford dealer in Minden, Louisiana and reportedly bought this gun during a very good year of business. Knowledgeable experts and collectors believe there are only about a half dozen pre-war factory fully gold finished Single Action Army's existent . The gun is also featured in an article in The Rampant Colt, Summer, 1999.
