Extremely rare and possible unique Confederate Naval Officers sword etched F. Heyer Richmond, Virginia on blade with dolphins and scrolls on cast brass hilt. The single copper wire wrapped handle is in good condition with just normal aging. The brass hilt shows some slight wear with a great patina. The blade measures 28” in length and is nearly ¾” wide at the ricasso. The sword is etched 18” down the blade with foliate scenes and portraits of 3 masted sloop on one side and CSN on reverse with crossed cannons, fouled anchors and crosshatch motifs. The blade is in very good condition showing the right kind of age with some scattered erosion and pinprick pitting. This sword was formally in the famous Bob Owens collection of Texas who was a premier old-time collector of Confederate arms. This example is the only Richmond marked Navy sword this cataloger or many knowledgeable collectors have ever even or even heard of. Most Confederate Navy swords are British imports by Mole which are somewhat common and on recently fetched approximately $60,000 at auction. Provenance Eric Vaule. Est.: $10,000-$20,000+++
