Extremely rare and early Navy sized grip 1860 Colt Army pistol serial number 52. Only about 100 early armies are estimated to have been made with the Navy size grip in .44 caliber percussion. In 44 plus years of selling fine Colts we have seen less than six originals. The metal surfaces show light to slightly heavy pitting and erosion and cleaning to gray metal which is now starting to age and tone to gray. The grips are good with traces of varnish and fit well with a couple of small losses and the initials J.H.B. carved on bottom of right grip. The serial numbers are legible and all matching including cylinder which shows no scene and the stamp is faint. The frame also shows small early Colts patent stamp and early barrel address which is slightly shorter and this Army is all original. Any Colt with a low number is desirable but this is also a very rare variation almost unknown that only a very few advanced Colt collectors have been able to obtain. Est.: $7,000-$14,000.
