In letter dated Nov 12, 2007, obviously a very rare and special Model 21 which may have been ordered as a display gun as Marshall Field was the Premium Dept. Store in Chicago at this time. The gun is signed by Griebel just in front of trigger guard. Arnold Griebel was trained in Suhl, Germany and came into prominence as one of America’s Greatest Engravers shortly after WWII. He was at the height of his career in 1957 and he passed away in 1970. Griebel continued the tradition of “Great” engraved American Arms in the Germanic tradition started by Gustav Young, Nimsche, the Ulrichs and Rudolph Kornbraith. The gun remains in very good to near fine condition with 90-95% blue drifting to plum patina on frame, wood shows slight use but at least very good plus to near fine, action tight, bores excellent. A hard rubber English style pad has been added which extends the original 14” wood to 14 7/8” with pad. Less than 100 Model 21 410 gauge are estimated to have been produced. Only 5 Customs in 410 and this may well be the Best Known Example according to our research. Est. $35,000-70,000
