Bead front and notch rear sights, decorated with four heavy silver floral engraved silver bands on the barrel. The lock is installed on the left side,with the lock hardware floral engraved, "16*62" date on the end of the flashpan, an automatic pan cover, unguarded ball trigger and an "ID" hallmark maker mark on the lockplate. All steel stock, with a long iron ramrod, en suite ram rod pipes with cut through decoration, a 7 1/2" belt hook on the right side, fishtail ramshorn butt with a steel pricker. 24 1/4 inch overall length with 18 inch barrel. This is a fine pistol that exhibits wonderful form and balancea remarkably well considering its length. These very long Scottish Snaphaunce pistols were made in pairs with one right handed and one left handed. Surviving examples are housed in the Hermitage Museum, The National Museum of Antiquities in Edinburgh, and a brass stocked pair in the collection of the late R.T. Gynne. There are no know examples in American collections, public or private. RIA is pleased to offer this exceptional and extremely rare example for public sale.

Condition: Very good, with some areas of dark brown on the overall crisp gray patina, with mild pitting and handling marks. The stock is fine, exhibiting the characteristic lines of brass or bronze brazing used in the construction of all antique Scottish all steel pistols, as they were not cast in one piece. There are a few barely visible lines. Mechanically very good, with well functioning action. .
