Manufactured from 1871 to 1876, this is an extremely rare version of the Colt Cloverleaf revolver with the short 1 1/2 inch octagon barrel. The barrel and four-shot cylinder are blue with silver plated brass frame and niter blue hammer and trigger. It is fitted with two piece birds head walnut grips with a varnish finish. The left barrel flat is roll stamped "COLT" and the serial number is stamped on the bottom of the bird head butt. Fitted with a half moon front sight on the barrel and the top strap has a rear sighting groove. The Colt Cloverleaf Revolver is a key piece for any advanced Colt collection because it was the first Colt solid frame revolver chambered for metallic cartridge ammunition.

Condition: Fine. The barrel and cylinder retain 40% plus original blue finish with the balance a mottled brown-gray patina. The hammer and trigger retain traces of original niter blue. The brass has a smooth untouched aged patina. The grips are fine with much of the varnish remaining and high edge wear with some scattered minor handling marks. Mechanically excellent.
