Pre-Stamp Cover, 1858, Bombay to London, Letterhead of Bank of Bombay is folded and used as a cover, sent by James Blair (signed), Deputy Secretary, Bank of Bombay on AUG 3 1858 and a dispatch mark in Black ink of “BOMBAY | AUG 5 | 1858” is put on the cover, addressed to famous Printers Messrs. Perkins Bacon & Co., 69 Fleet Street, LONDON, via Marseilles, since the cover was bearing a rectangle seal in Black ink of “INDIA UNPAID” was put on the cover, it also bears a Red ink seal of “LONDON | FX | SP 3 | 58”, the journey took 30 days, excellent condition, Extremely Rare.

Gentlemen,

I have the pleasure to acknowledge receipt of your letter of the 15th of April with an Invoice of Stationary Shipped by “Flying Venus” consigned to the Bank of Bombay.

The ship has arrived but the boys have not yet landed, however, I have no doubt the Contents will be found Correct and in good order.

Enclosed is the first Exchange of Bill No. 2585 for £43.16.2 payable at sight in your favor at the Agra and United Service Bank London, being the amount due to you for the above Shipment.

I enclose three forms of Bank Post Bills issued by the Bank and request you will have the kindness to alter the present plate or make new ones if necessary and send us by the P. and P. Steamer via Egypt, the following supply

1,000 Post Bills (Form No. 1 bills at 7 days date)

1,000 Post Bills (Form No. 2 Seconds of Exchange 30 days Sight)

1,000 Post Bills (Form No. 3 Thirds of Exchange 30 days Sight)

Messrs. Perkins Bacon & Co., was a printer of Books, Bank Notes, and Postage Stamps, most notable for printing the Penny Black, the world's first adhesive postage stamps, in 1840. Jacob Perkins was enticed to come to England by Charles Heath, because of all the world's currency, Perkins' notes were considered the best. He arrived with Gideon Fairman and Asa Spencer and set up shop as Perkins and Fairman in London, and worked exclusively for several months on the attempt to win the Bank of England project.
