Extremely Rare Nimschke Panel Scene Engraved Frank Wesson Small Frame Superposed Deringer with Pearl Grips and Sliding Dagger

Manufactured from 1868 to 1880 with a total production of less than 3,000. This particular pistol is the desirable small frame "Watch Fob" variation and is chambered for the 22 short rimfire cartridge. Also known as the "Watch Fob" Model because of its round ring type hammer, this Frank Wesson superposed pistol features floral scroll engraving with a punch dot background on the frame, scallop border on the upper and lower barrel flats, knurling on the center barrel, a wedge of floral scroll on the top, breech ends of the barrels and a feather pattern on the breech sides. In addition one rear flat is engraved vertically "FRANK WESSON/PAT. DEC. 15, 1868" and the opposite is engraved with a finely detailed wilderness scene depicting a canyon, running stream, a large tree on the bank and four birds flying overhead. The engraving appears much in the quality and style of Nimschke. The pistol features a sliding dirk in the center "barrel". The barrels are iron, the frame brass and the pistol is fitted with two piece smooth pearl grips. Most likely the barrels were silver and the frame gold, however the finish is now absent. Consignors notes states that this may be the only one of its kind, engraved with the dirk and there are only 6 known to exist that are engraved.
