Extremely Rare Mauser K98 Rifle with Experimental Fiberglass Stock
This is an excellent example of a early Mauser rifle with the ultra-rare fiberglass stock. These stocks have been noted in several of the recent K98 Mauser reference book and are considered just about the rarest of the WWII Mauser rifle variations. They were produced on a very limited basis as an experimental stock for early troop test trials. They didn't prove as robust as the standard walnut and laminated stocks, consequently they were produced in very limited numbers and are extremely rare to find today. The rifle itself is a very early prewar K98 that was produced at the Mauser Werkes factory in Borsigwalde, Berlin. The top of the receiver has the large "S/243" over "1937" markings indicating the Mauser factory. The left and right sides of the receiver have the correct Eagle 211 proofs with the receiver side wall being marked "MOD 98" with firing proofs on the barrel and receiver. It has the early all milled components with the correct Eagle WaA211 proofs and the early style "H" pattern front barrel band. The stock and hand guard are the original wartime fiberglass or composite version in which you can actually see the red layered fiberglass material with the seam in the middle of the forend where the two sections (forend and butt stock) were jointed together. The stock still retains the original bolt take down washer in the middle of the butt stock and it is equipped with the original flat butt plate. The left side of the stock has the original Eagle "H" Heers proof with a double Eagle WaA211 proof directly below that. The underside of the stock is correctly marked with the rifle serial number. This is a factory original stock, with the detail quality of the sling slot and adjoining plate of the buttplate being of particular note. It is complete with an original cleaning rod, a metal push on front sight cover, a later winter trigger assembly that is marked with "MOD 98" on the side and a later reproduction leather sling.
