Manufactured in 1963, this is an extremely rare pair of consecutively serial numbered New Frontier revolvers. According to Wilkerson's book, "The Post-War Colt Single-Action Revolver 1955-1975", page 205, only 134 New frontiers chambered in 44 Special with 7 1/2 inch barrels were manufactured. Page 208 states that there are no known examples with full blue finish in 44 caliber and page 207 states that there are no known examples of "Non-engraved" consecutive sets in 44 caliber. The accompanying factory letter verifies that serial numbers 4078NF & 4079NF, as 44 Special, 7 1/2 inch barrels, blue finish, grips as "Not Listed", Special Features, "Consecutive serial numbers" and that they were shipped as a pair to Blue Island Gun Shop, 3026 west 127th Street, Blue Island, Illinois and April 9, 1963. With the verified information from the Colt factory letter, we believe this pair may be the only known consecutive set, and the only two all blue, 7 1/2 inch barrel, 44 Special New Frontier revolvers is existence. These revolvers have Class "C" floral scroll and punch dot engraving on barrel, frame, cylinder flats and back strap, and a feather design on the outer edge of the ejector housing. The top of the barrel is marked with the one line address in a scallop bordered panel, the left side is marked "COLT NEW FRONTIER S.A.A. .44 SPECIAL" in a panel and the frame has standard two line, three patent date marking followed by the Rampant Colt. The matching serial is marked on the bottom of the frame and on the front and back straps under the grip. The Colt "VP" triangle proof is marked on the upper left front of the trigger guard, "W" on the rear and the number "5" on the opposite (front). Standard fixed ramped blade front and adjustable rear sights, all blue finish and fitted with a smooth one-piece ivory grip.
