Extremely Rare Javelin type Gold Dinar Coin of Samudragupta of Gupta Dynasty.
Gupta Dynasty, Samudragupta (335-370 CE), Gold Dinar, “Javelin” type, Obv: the king wearing a crescent-top crown and tunic, standing facing left, nimbate, holding a javelin/spearhead facing downwards in his left hand and sacrificing over an altar, a Garuda standard in the left field, adorned with a ribbon, the Brahmi legend “Samudra/gupta” below the king's arm and besides the javelin, a circular Brahmi legend "(Samarasata vitatavijayo)jitaripurajito divam jayati" around the field, Rev: the goddess Lakshmi, nimbate, seated on a high backed throne whose two legs are clearly visible, with her feet resting on a circular mat below, a diadem and a cornucopia in her hands, a tamgha in the top-left field, the Brahmi legend “Parakramah” in the right field, a dotted border around the field, 7.26g, 20.76mm, (Unlisted in Altekar/TGE, S. Kumar # Class II -Var. E.4), almost complete details, choice extremely fine, Extremely Rare.

Note: This popular Javelin-type coin was struck by Samudragupta as one of his first coins alongside the Archer type during his early reign. It has Brahmi legends “Samudra Gupta” flanked by a Javelin between two words, it is an early struck Javelin type, that can’t be confused with the regular categorization of these coins of the same style as Javelin/Standard type with the obverse Brahmi legends “Samudra” only. An extremely sought-after type.
