Extremely Rare Hopkins & Allen Single Action Army Revolver with U.S. Marking
Manufactured in the late 1870s and early 1880s with an estimated total production of only 600 to 800, these revolvers were considered by many to be the finest handgun made under the Hopkins & Allen name. Although no evidence exists of any actual military or government purchase, these revolvers were traditionally classified as "Secondary Martial" revolvers, and this particular revolver is marked with the very rarely found "U S" on the toe of the butt in front of the lanyard ring. The top strap is marked "HOPKINS & ALLEN MFG CO / PAT. MCH 28.71 MAY 27.79 / XL NO.8" and the upper left side of the frame in front of the cylinder is marked with an "R". The serial number "121" is marked on the bottom of the barrel and on the left side of the frame under the grip. The ejector rod is located under the barrel. A lever on the left side of the frame is depressed, the ejector rod is pulled forward and then rolled to the right for use. The revolver features blade front and notch rear sights, casehardened hammer, trigger guard, trigger and lanyard ring, a sliding loading gate, brown checkered grips and a lanyard ring on the butt.

Very fine. The revolver retains approximately 80% of the original plated finish with moderate flaking on the barrel and cylinder, overall scattered small areas of minor flaking and overall dulling of the finish. The hammer retains most of the original bright case colors, the protected areas of the trigger guard show strong original case colors and the remaining casehardened areas have a smooth dark mottled patina. The grips are excellent, showing very minor wear, a few minor handling marks and sharp checkering. The markings are crisp and clear. Mechanically fine. A very nice, extremely rare "US" marked Hopkins & Allen Single Action Army revolver.
