Manufacturer: Winchester Model: 70
Winchester introduced the 375 H&H Magnum caliber to its line of Model 70s in 1937. This 375 H&H Magnum carbine example was manufactured in 1938. The 20 inch barrel features a hooded ramp front sight and an adjustable sporting rear sight. The left side of the barrel has standard Winchester markings followed by "375 MAGNUM", the first style caliber designation stamp for the 375 H&H Magnum. The Winchester factory proof is stamped on the left side of the barrel and receiver at the breech. The Type I receiver with a cloverleaf tang is tapped for scope/sight mounting and has a polished bolt numbered to the gun. The rifle also has the Tilden style safety. The straight comb pistol grip stock features checkering, sling swivels and a Winchester solid recoil pad. In the book THE MODEL 70 1937-1964, author Dean Whitaker notes that he was unable to confirm reported Model 70 carbines in 375 H&H Magnum. This carbine will surely re-write the history books!
