Extremely Rare Cased Second Generation Colt Single Action Army Revolver with Factory Letter

This example was manufactured in 1962. This configuration of a 7 1/2 inch barrel, .44 special caliber and full nickel finish is rare with only 55 manufactured. It has the standard markings and features with the "VP" in a triangle proofmark and a "V" stamped on the left side of the trigger guard. The right side is stamped with a "5". Fitted with a set of smooth synthetic pearl grips with silver Colt medallions. The factory letter confirms the caliber, barrel length and finish with the grips as "Not Listed". It was shipped as 1 of 2 to N.F. Strebes Gunworks in Washington, D.C. on October 9th, 1964. Although the Colt records do not list the type of grips on this revolver, the excellent fitting of the grips suggests that the grips were fitted on the revolver at the Colt factory. The Colt factory did offer pearlite type grips featuring silver medallions as an option to its line of post-war Single Action Army Revolvers. With a green velvet lined walnut Colt display case.

Excellent, 98% of the original nickel finish remains with a small spot of frosting on the left side of the trigger guard, some scattered light scratches and a drag line on the cylinder. The grips are excellent. The case is also excellent.
