To commemorate one of the largest social gatherings of the fall season Cornwall Kirkpatrick prepared what is know as an elaborate incised "Fair Jug" listing the names of the principals of the event including the Officers and Event Class Committee Members for example Class A - Horses, Class B - Mules, Jacks & Jennets. In addition he listed other community minded information such as the Union Academy of Southern Illinois Principal, the Sheriff, and several other distinguished officers of County Offices of Union Illinois. Incrised are the churches and several advertisement type banners similar to ads that one may find in a newspaper such as:" The Farmer and Fruit Grower/Steam Printing Office/HC Boutan Editor & Prop./Main Street Anna Ill." and "The Talk/ W.W. Farris & Co/ Editors & Prop./Anna, Ills.," Oliver Alden General Merchandise located on Main Street in Anna, and John Greac Watch Maker & Jeweler in Jonesboro and F.P. Anderson Watchmaker located in Centennial Building on Railroad Street in Anna, Illinois. On the brim of the spout in a prominent location incised are the words, " Union County Agricultural Board" below this reads "Twenty-ninth Annual Fair/held at/Jonesboro Illinois/on/Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, September 16, 19th, 1884". On the top of the spout is an interesting personal addition to the jug as the Kirkpatrick bother incised the following "C & W Kirkpatrick Establish Anna Pottery in 1859". Along the handle an endorsement for the Governor of Illinois and his Lieutenant Governor running mate. One of the most unique characteristics of this jug is the ad placed by "Otriches Eqyptional Oil, Cures Rheumatism, Anna, Ill. The triangle shaped ad has a drawing of three pyramids and a pharaoh. Of the eight fair pieces known to exist only three of them are in private hands, two of them will be offered at auction. The opportunity to own and preserve the history of these pieces is now. Condition: The jug is in excellent plus, totally original condition with a few beautiful "turkey droppings". There is a kiln burn on the one side of the jug as it appears to have caused a small glaze flaw that is extremely attractive.
