John Bell: A Rare Large Oval Ferrotype Brooch for this 1860 Lincoln Opponent. There were four presidential candidates in 1860, and these beautiful large ovals were produced for each candidate. The Lincoln is, not surprisingly, the most common as items for the elected president tended to be saved. By far the rarest are the Bell and Breckenridge. The present example, from the legendary Joe Brown collection is essentially bright and near-mint but for some fine deliberate defacement. There are minute scratches on each of Bell's eyes and the initials T.H.T. have been lightly scratched above. The "artist" has also added two fine scratches on Bell's cravat. Barely noticeable from most angles. Still a very collectible example, particularly in light of its rarity. Original pin on reverse. 27mm x 40mm.

Shipping: Miscellaneous Collectibles, Smal (view shipping information)
