This extremely rare Model 1911A1 "Demonstration Pistol" that was manufactured by Remington Rand in 1943. These "Demonstration Pistols" were manufactured to show employees the finished Model 1911A1 pistol, explain how it was used and emphasize the importance of every operation on each part. Remington Rand manufactured 145 Demonstration Pistols in a separate series beginning with serial number "1". The pistols had a parkerized finish and the serial numbers were stamped on the pistols after the parkerized finish was applied. The pistols did not have military nomenclature, inspection, proof or "U.S. Property" marks on the slide and frame. The Demonstration Pistols were subsequently presented to Remington Rand officials and employees. The Demonstration Pistols are described on page 313 of "COLT .45 SERVICE PISTOLS" by Charles W. Clawson and example serial number 131 is pictured on page 314 of that work. The pistol has a gray parkerized finish and is fitted with brown plastic checkered grips. The feed ramp is polished bright. The pistol has a serrated arched mainspring housing, narrow hammer with well-defined border on the knurling, checkered slide stop, safety lock and stamped trigger. The right side of the frame is hand-stamped with serial number "132" behind the slide-stop hole. The inside of the serial numbers are bright, indicating they were stamped after the pistol was parkerized. "G" is stamped on the top of the frame to the right of the disconnector hole. The left side of the slide is roll-stamped with the first type legend: "REMINGTON RAND INC./SYRACUSE, N.Y. U.S.A." in two lines. There are no military nomenclature, property, proof or inspection marks on the slide or frame. The stocks have large reinforcing rings and interior strengthening ribs. The ribs are stamped with mold numbers. The stocks lack the five-pointed star found on Keyes Fibre Co. stocks and appear to be "Colt wood" stocks. The barrel is stamped "HS" (High Standard) on the right side of the lug and has a "P" proof mark on the left side and has a dark parkerized finish. The magazine has the same dark parkerized finish as the barrel.
