The Anna Howe Gold Mining Company of Birmingham, Alabama. Number 1765 for 10 shares to BD Block (?) signed by secretary AH Primms and vice president A Schreiber. Pink 4c United States adhesive stamp on top right. Very fine condition. Some discoloration on top left. Two vertical folds. The Anna Howe was one of the first gold bearing quartz discoveries in the Arbacoochee district. It is a segregated or bedded vein of highly sulphuretted white quartz plentifully stained with iron and partially porous and decomposed From the surface down a distance of about 100 feet on an incline with the dip of the vein the country rock enclosing this ore body had much the same appearance of decomposed schist and quicksand as is found in the placer diggings. The Anna Howe was a syndicate of New Orleans capitalists. A Huntington Mill was erected to process the ore. The gold played out early and by 1896 the mine and mill were silent.
