Extensively deluxe engraved, 24 K gold inlaid, inscribed Colt SAA Sheriff’s Model revolver, .45 cal., 5-1/2” barrel, blue and case hardened finish, genuine elephant raised carved ivory grips by Dennis Holland, #044SE55. This signed outstanding example of Master engraver Ken Hurst’s work is in overall like new condition showing 99%+ of its custom finish with extensive engraving on all parts of the gun including the front sight, hammer and straps; gold inlays are also displayed over the entirety of the gun including a raised gold portrait of J.B. “Wild Bill” Hickok on the left recoil shield, “10” (the name of the saloon where Hickok was gunned down from behind), “J.B. Hickok” signature on the back strap and gold inlaid border lines on the frame, barrel, cylinder, back strap and trigger guard. Included in the engraving are the following panel scenes: the dates “1837” and “1876” (birth date and date of death at the hands of Jack McCall); a Deputy Sheriff’s badge, whiskey bottle and glass, “Abilene” and “Deadwood”; Aces and Eights (card hand Wild Bill was holding when shot; hence the term “Dead Man’s Hand). The thick ivory grips are in fine condition and show an intricately carved bust of Hickok on the left side of the grip wearing his signature fringed jacket, revolvers and bowie knife, cowboy hat and long hair and on the right side of the grip is the raised carving of the aces and eights poker hand. This example of high art in a firearm by a well-recognized Master engraver is exceptional in every way and commemorates one of the most known American Western figures of the mid-1800’s. Accompanied by a letter from Jim Alaimo dated August 9, 2000, providing additional detailed information on this gun. Est.: $7,500-$15,000.
