Extensively deluxe engraved, 24 K gold inlaid, inscribed Colt SAA Sheriff’s Model revolver, .45 LC cal., 2” barrel, blue and case hardened finish, fantastic elephant ivory raised carved grips by Dennis Holland, #044SE2. This outstanding example of Master engraver Ken Hurst’s work (which is signed on the frame below the serial number) is in overall like new condition showing 99%+ of its custom finish with extensive engraving on all parts of the gun including the front sight, hammer and straps; gold inlays are also extensive including a raised gold portrait of “Bat” Masterson on the left recoil shield, a quill and ink well representing Masterson’s association with the New York Times newspaper, Canadian maple leaf and tastefully done line and scroll borders on the frame, cylinder, barrel, back strap and trigger guard (heart shape around front retaining screw). Included in the engraving are the following panel scenes: the dates “1856” and “1921” (birth date and date of death at his desk as a sports writer for the Times); a Lawman’s badge; gambler’s dice; Gold pan with nuggets; “New York Times”; “Tombstone” ; “Dodge City” and “W.B. Masterson” signature on the back strap. The thick ivory grips are in fine condition and show an outstandingly accomplished raised carving on the left side grip of Masterson in his usual fancy dress, coat, bowler hat and fancy walking cane. A rare opportunity to obtain a minty custom Colt short-barreled Sheriff’s model created by one of the foremost Master firearms engravers of our time and a tribute to one of the best known American Western figures of the late 19th/early 20th century. Accompanied by a letter from Jim Alaimo dated August 9, 2000, providing additional detailed information on this gun. Est.: $7,500-$15,000.
