Extensively Engraved Franz Sodia Model 170 Drilling with Zeiss Scope

This beautiful example was manufactured circa 1985. The receiver is profusely engraved with game scenes with the left side of the receiver showing two rabbits in a wooded scene, the underside shows a running red stag in a meadow and the right side shows two pheasants in flight in a field. There is also a large amount of floral scroll engraving on the receiver with flourishes on the break lever, trigger guard and forearm hardware. The lower tang is engraved with the serial number. The barrels have bands of engraving at the breech end, a beaded blade front sight, a pop up rear sight activated by the selector switch, claw mounts having a Zeiss Diavari-Z 1.5-6x42 scope mounted and a factory sling swivel. The top of the rib between the claw mounts is engraved "FRANZ SODIA, FERLACH". The shotgun barrels are choked improved modified/full and have 3 inch chambers. Has a front set trigger for the .30-06 rifle barrel. Mounted on a nicely figured European walnut splinter forearm and pistol grip stock with multi-point checkering, right handed raised cheekpiece, grip cap, sling swivel and a "WEGU ELASTIC Schaftkappe" marked recoil pad. Length of pull is 14 1/2 inches. With lens covers, original receipt, test targets and correspondence between the original purchaser and the Franz Sodia company.

Excellent, 99% of the original high quality rust blue finish remains with only a few light handling/storage marks. The nickel plated components retain retain 99% of their original finish with a few small freckles next to the trigger. The expertly executed engraving remains sharp with no loss of detail. The wood is also excellent with some scattered light scratches and minor dings. Mechanically excellent. The scope is excellent as well with clear optics. This is a wonderful example chambered in the popular .30-06 rifle caliber and 12 gauge!
