<td width="100%">
An exquisite and unique Chinese wood carving of Kwan Yin,
also
known as Guan Yin, Quan'Am (Vietnam), Kannon (Japan), and
Tara (Tibet). In her left hand she holds the Cintamani ? the
precious flaming pearl - which has vast magical powers beyond
description.
She sits casually in the Royal Ease position.
This carving was originally purchased in Dunhuang, China, a
rural city at the remote western end of the Great Wall. Since
ancient times, Dunhuang has been a hub of
commerce and culture along the Silk Road between India, Tibet
and China. By the end of the ninth century there was a statue
of Kwan Yin in every Buddhist monastery in China. She is
perhaps the most widely revered diety in the world. To have a
picture or statue of Kwan Yin in one's home brings good luck
and protection to the household. The artistry of this piece
reflects the value the Chinese have placed on sacred art. It is
perfect
for any collection or an excellent gift for anyone interested in
China, Buddhism and meditation.
