Exquisite One of a Kind Custom Engraved Gold and Nickel Plated Winchester Model 1873 Lever Action Ri
Originally manufactured in 1883, this Third Model was subsequently exquisitely custom embellished and mounted with finely detailed carved pre-ban, legally imported elephant ivory forearm and stock. The rifle originally was equipped with a round barrel and straight grip stock with a shotgun buttplate. The barrel, full magazine, rear sight adjuster, lever and hammer are nickel plated and the forend cap, front and rear sights, receiver, dust cover, magazine band, screw and cap, and crescent buttplate are gold plated. The barrel features floral scroll and punch dot patterns as well as fancy triple figure 8 designs accented with floral patterns on each side and scallop border on the side flats. The two line Winchester address/King's patent marking has a large arrow separating the lines. The forend cap, receiver, dust cover, lever, hammer and buttplate feature spectacular full floral scroll and punch dot engraving with a cowboy and Indian battling on each side of the receiver, a buffalo skull on the dust cover and an Indian holding a buffalo skull above his head on the cartridge elevator. The sides of the hammer and the buttstock compartment door have floral and feather designs. The forearm is finely checkered with floral scroll border and the same figure 8 pattern on the bottom center. The stock is beautifully relief carved in fine detail. The right side recreates Frederick Remington's famous painting "A Dash for The Timber" which was painted by Remington in 1890. (The painting is currently on display in the Amon Carter Museum in Fort Worth, Texas). The left side depicts a classic stagecoach under attack by Indians and the grip cap features the Winchester cowboy. The carving was done by Paul Persinger of El Paso, Texas and took several years to complete. The engraving was executed by Leo Ferguson of Lubbock, Texas. All of the work is period correct and flawless in every way.
