Experimental Rare U.S. Springfield Model 1884 Trapdoor Ramrod Bayonet Rifle

One of only 1000 manufactured in 1886. Hooded blade front and "R" marked Buffington rear sights, with the rear of the barrel marked "A" on top and "V/P/Eagle head/P" on the upper left. Low-arch breechblock, marked "US/MODEL/1878", with the Eagle/Shield motif next to "U.S./SPRINGFIELD" on the lock plate. Smooth straight grip stock, with two barrel bands, script "P" behind the trigger guard, "SWP/1886" cartouche on the left side, and a "US" marked buttplate. With a ramrod bayonet manufactured with single shoulders, 35 9/16 inches overall with a 15 1/4 inch "blade".

Fair, showing a dark brown patina overall with scattered pitting and handling marks overall. The stock is good, with dents and minor chips. The bayonet is aged to match the rest of the rifle. The firing pin assembly is damaged, otherwise the rifle is mechanically very good.
