Experimental Johnson Automatics Model 1941 Semi-Automatic Rifle with Extra Length Barrel and Telesco
This is a unique example of a Johnson Automatics Model 1941 semi-automatic rifle with 27-inch heavy barrel that was most likely developed for sniping purposes. The rifle original tangent rear sight has been removed and a Redfield style rear sight base and Lyman Alaskan telescopic sight have been mounted on the receiver. The original stock has been replaced with an oil-finished walnut pistol grip stock fitted with a cheek rest from a British No. 4. MK1(T) sniper rifle. The top of the receiver is roll-stamped with the standard Johnson Automatics legend and patent markings and the left side has the Cranston Arms triangle logo. The front of the barrel shroud is marked: ".30/06" at the top and "1941" at the bottom. The receiver and barrel are both stamped with the serial number "5112". The barrel, receiver and rotary magazine are parkerized. There is some pitting on the barrel chamber beneath the parkerized finish. The telescopic sight has a post and cross-wire reticule, commercial blue finish and standard Lyman Alaskan markings. The rifle is fitted with a late production Model 1907 russet leather sling. The conversion is professionally done and appears to be factory work. Originally intended for shipment to the Dutch Indies, the Johnsons that ended up with the United States Marine Corps were commandeered following the Japanese occupation of Indonesia in 1942.
