Exhibition quality Sheffield dagger with cast scabbard and grip showing scenes from Shakespeare’s famous theatrical play “Othello”. The dagger measures 22” overall with nearly 16” blade. The blade shows a reinforcement at the ricasso and is nicely etched on both sides and was meant to be used as a weapon. The blade remains in very good condition with some slight staining, normal aging and just a little wear. The cast metal scabbard and grip are very finely detailed and well chased with gold gilt and ornamentation which remains in near fine condition. This dagger was once in the Bill Williamson collection located in Santa Barbara, California and was traded to it an orange county collector in the 1970s. Williamson described this massive dagger as among the very biggest and best of this romantic Victorian age. Est.: $3,500-$7,000.
