Exhibition quality Remington Rolling Block pistol, .50 caliber cannon barrel, bank-note style scroll engraved, nickel plated, ivory grips. Shows Remington on right side of frame between pins. With engraved breech, portraying lion holding down snake. Serial #124, formerly of the William Locke collection, illustrated page 237, Remington Rolling Block Pistols by Jerry Landskron. From the author’s collection. The pistol shows 90-95% original nickel just starting to crack and peel slightly with some losses at the edges, muzzle, and straps. Areas where the finish has lifted has gone to a patina with some darkening and pinprick pitting just starting, but absolutely no polishing or cleaning. The hammer and rolling block show most of their bright original blue. The bore is bright, the edges crisp, the ivory grips show a great patina with some checking and aging, small losses, and are absolutely genuine to the period. Ivory stock cannon barrel Rolling Blocks are generally considered to be made for expositions and presentations.
