Manufactured in 1959. This revolver has near full coverage factory floral scroll with punch dot background engraving and gold wire inlaid designs. A gold leaping buck on the right of the frame with the S&W small trade mark in the left side. Casehardened trigger and shrouded hammer. Fitted with smooth rosewood grips with gold S&W medallions. Complete with a factory letter that indicates a request from the Massachusetts State Police for a steel frame variation of the bodyguard and verifies that production of the model 39 began in 1959 at approximately serial number 163051 making this one of the first, if not the first production model. The accompanying factory letter also verifies the serial number, 38 S&W Special caliber, 2 inch barrel, blue finish, class A engraved with special gold inlays, smooth rosewood grips and that it was shipped from the factory to Rex firearms Co., New York City, NY on Dec 2, 1959.

Condition: Excellent. The revolver retains 97% of the finish with overall light handling/storage wear. The blue finish is worn thin with some light pitting visible on the left upper rear edge of the frame and a drag line is visible on the cylinder. The gold is excellent with the medallions showing light wear. The grips are excellent with light storage/handling marks. Mechanically excellent.
