Exceptionally Rare World War II Walther Factory Engraved Gold Plated Nazi Helmut Gommlich Presentation PP Semi Automatic Pistol with Ivory Grips

This is a beautiful example of a rare Walther factory engraved, gold plated presentation PP pistol with raised relief, engraved, inlayed "HG" monogram initials inset into the factory ivory grips. The initials "HG" are specifically for the Nazi Chief of Police of Zella-Mehlis at Thuringia Helmut Gommlich. This pistol is almost identical to the one pictured on page 14-15 of the book "Walther Volume II engraved, Presentation and Standard Models" by Rankin. While the name Helmut Gommlich may not be at the top of the known high ranking Nazi leaders, he was intimately involved in the establishment of the Nazi Concentration camps in Germany, along with the acquisition of the brick building materials for the Buchenwald and Sauchenhausen concentration camps. He was also a well known and high trusted Nazi official. He was extremely involved in the early Nazi's rise to power and the development of the "final solution" or the "four year" plan to eliminated the Jew Problem within Germany. His career began in 1926 after he was released from the Weimar Navy, where he was appointed as a detective at the Criminal Investigation Bureau in Weimar. Later in 1927, he was transferred to Zella-Mehlis, Thuringia and secretly joined the NSDAP/SS, eventually working within the SS under the SD. The (Sicherheitsdienst des Reichsfhrers-SS) SD was the intelligence agency of the SS and the Nazi Party in Germany. This organization was the first Nazi Party intelligence organization to be established and was often considered a sister organization of the Gestapo. Between 1933 and 1939, the SD was administered as an independent SS office, after which it was transferred to the authority of the Reich Main Security Office. During his time spent under the SS/SD (1926-28) he was personally instrumental in the exprivitation of the Simson Co, in Suhl, (the Luger manufacturing company) where he gained great notoriety within the Nazi Party. This allowed him to join the inner circle of the most elite Nazis, including Franz Sauckel, Himmler and Goring, as well as Carl and Gertrude Walther. Due his heavy involvement in the Nazi Party, as well as being "Chief of Police" or "Minister of the Interior" of Thuringia (where the Walther plant was located) he had the power to personally order these fully engraved gold plated presentation pistols directly from the Walther factory. Although not specifically inscribed, he used these pistols, as special presentation gifts to senior members under his command as well as to other high ranking German/Nazi officials. This beautiful pistol has 99% of the traditional Germanic oak leaf and acorn pattern engraving, over all the metal surfaces that was then gold washed/plated over the entire surface. It has the standard Walther two line factory markings that consist of "Walther" inside a banner next to "Waffenfabrik Walther, Zella-Mehlis (Thur)/Walther's Patent Cal 7,65 m/m" next to "Mod. PP". As noted the grips are ivory with the left side having an approximately 1 inch silver oval inlayed in the grip that has a geometric border with a punch dot back ground with the large initials "HG" engraved in an old Germanic Script in the center. The right side of the grip has the large gold-washed Nazi Eagle/Swastika underneath. The right side of the slide and barrel both have the "Nazi Eagle/N" commercial proof. It is complete with an original matching Walther marked PP magazine that also has the gold washed finish.

Very fine with all the original and exceptionally high condition factory engraving showing with 25% of the original gold finish remaining overall on the exterior of the pistol mostly in the protected areas, with much of the gold wash remaining on the inside of the frame, slide and various parts. The ivory grips are very fine with an attractive, original aged yellowed appearance overall. This rare pistol is completely fresh to the collector market and has remained with the original veterans family from the time it was captured in Germany until now.
