Exceptionally Rare World War II Krieghoff "P" Code Side Frame Inscribed Commercial Contract Luger Pistol

This is an example of a "P" code Krieghoff commercial contract Luger with the very rare "Side Frame Inscription" markings with the Commercial "N" proofmarks. This very rare pistol is clearly described on page 196 and 197 of Gibson's excellent book on Krieghoff Lugers. It is estimated that fewer than 10 of these commercial contract "P" code Lugers with the side inscription were manufactured. This specific pistol has the correct blank chamber area with the C-2 Krieghoff die markings on top of the toggle, that has the "I" in Krieghoff centered over the "S" in Suhl with the slightly slanted "U". The right side of the barrel extension has the correct five pointed star indicating that it was rejected for military use. The left side of the barrel extension has the small early Crown "N" proof indicating commercial sales. The underside of the barrel is also proofed with the small early Crown "N" proof along with a small "LWaA" 1st acceptance-stage I markings. As noted, this specific pistol has the rare side frame markings in three lines, that consist of "Heinrich Krieghoff/Waffenfabrik/Suhl". The pistol is correctly numbered in the commercial fashion with the complete serial number on the front of the frame and the left side of the barrel extension. The back side of the side plate has the last two digits of the serial number along with a Krieghoff proof. This pistol has the high polish Krieghoff blue finish with the straw colored smaller parts. It is fitted with a set of the unmarked late production brown plastic grips with the coarse checkering. The pistol is complete with one late "fxo" marked blue magazine with an unnumbered/unproofed aluminum base, pinned through the center of the base. The magazine body has the double "Eagle/37" proof at the top and bottom of the left side.

Manufucture: Krieghoff Heinrich Gun Co
Model: Luger
BBL: 3 7/8 inch round
Stock:
Guage: 9 mm Luger
Finish: blue
Grips: brown plastic
Serial Number: P21920

Very fine with 75% of the blue finish overall, with edge and high spot wear with blue loss on the grip straps and a small amount of light pitting on the left side, front sight base. The various small parts retain 20% of their straw colors overall. The grips are excellent with minor handling marks. The side frame inscription is clear and distinct and original to the pistol. A very nice example of a very scarce Krieghoff Luger pistol.
