Exceptional World War II U.S. Army Contract Winchester Model 12 Trench Shotgun

This is an excellent example of a very rare late WWII, blue Winchester Model 12 Trench Gun as manufactured in 1943-44. The Winchester Model 12 and Model 97 Trench Guns were the primary U.S. combat shotguns in WWII and Korea and even into Vietnam by both the Marine Corp and US Army, with original unaltered WWII examples extremely rare today, as almost all were rebuilt and reparkerized over time. The left side of the barrel is roll stamped with the two line Winchester address/patent dates followed by "-WINCHESTER-/-TRADE MARK-" and "MODEL 12-12 GA.-2 3/4 CHAM./CYL.". The top breech end of the barrel is stamped with a small Ordnance "Shell and Flame" insignia with both the barrel and front edge of the receiver stamped with the circled Winchester "W/P" factory proofmark. The right front end of the receiver is also roll stamped with the Ordnance "Shell and Flame insignia/U.S.". This shotgun is fitted with a walnut stock and pump handle with the left side of the stock stamped with the boxed Ordnance "G.H.D." inspection mark and a small 1/4 inch U.S. Ordnance Escutcheon stamped below that. The serial number, "1011371" is roll stamped on the underside of the barrel and receiver. The walnut stock and forearm have a varnish finish with the black checkered hard rubber buttplate with the circular Winchester logo. The shotgun is fitted with the WWII pattern four hole heatshield/bayonet lug. The stock has a sling swivel and the larger bail wire sling swivel located on the bayonet lug. The barrel has the barrier tube.

Excellent with 98% of the original blue finish, mixed with a very minor light brown spotting on the sides, top and bottom of the receiver. The barrel, magazine tube and perforated heat shield all show 98% of the wartime Winchester blue finish overall. The stock and forearm are both very fine with clear sharp markings and proofs showing minor handling marks, and scratches on the sides and underside of the buttstock mixed with some very old minor varnish touch up in a couple spots. The overall markings are clear and sharp. An excellent example of a rare late WWII all blued Winchester Model 12 trench shotgun.
