Exceptional World War II U.S. Army Contract Union Switch & Signal Model 1911A1 Semi-Automatic Pistol

This is an excellent rare WWII US Army contract US&S Model 1911A1 pistol manufactured circa 1944. The left side of the frame is stamped with the circled "RCD" initials of the US Ordnance inspector, LTC Robert Downie with a small "P" proof below the magazine release button and on top of the slide in front of the rear sight. The right side of the frame is stamped "UNITED STATES PROPERTY M 1911 A1 U.S. ARMY", over "No. 1056259". The left side of the slide is marked with the intertwined "US&S" company logo followed by "U.S. & S CO./SWISSVALE, PA. U.S.A.", with a "P" factory marking. It is equipped with a High Standard marked blue barrel, narrow hammer spur, stamped trigger, checkered slide catch, thumb safety, arched mainspring housing, and Keyes Fibre grips. This pistol is complete with one WWII magazine with a small letter "S" on the lip of the base plate. It has the original Du-Lite, finish.

Excellent with 98% plus of the original factory du-lite finish overall with edge and high spot wear with some minor blue loss on the front edges of the slide. The grips are excellent condition. An exceptionally nice original WWII US&S M1911A1 pistol.
