Exceptional Winchester Model 21 Grand American Two Barrel Set Double Barrel Shotgun with Case and Wi
Introduced by Winchester in 1931, the Model 21 was one of the company's finest effort ,with regard, to quality, reliability and strength. The model was introduced as a production line gun and moved to the custom shop in 1960 but it was in fact, a hand-built custom-made shotgun from the beginning. This shotgun is a two barrel set, one 28" and the other 26". Each set of barrels has a 3" wedge of fine floral scroll engraving on the rear sides, a vent matte rib with a single ivory bead sight and marked "CUSTOM BUILT BY WINCHESTER" at the breech end. The top rear of the left barrel of each set is marked "MODEL 21 WINCHESTER 12 GAUGE 3 IN. CHAM. / MADE IN NEW HAVEN CONN. U.S.A.". Each has jeweled flats, lug, ejectors and breech face, and extra fancy, highly figured triple X walnut forearms with finely floral scroll engraved hardware, ebony forend inset and fancy Fleur-de-Lis checkering. The 26" set has the chokes marked as improved cylinder/cylinder and the 28" set modified/improved cylinder. The receiver, break lever and trigger guard are finely floral scroll engraved with a gold inlaid hunting dog with a field scene in an oval panel on each side of the receiver, two gold inlaid pheasants on the underside in a field scene and the head of a hunting dog on the trigger guard. The fences have deep relief oak leafs with a matte background. The water table and breech face are jeweled with the Winchester proof and the three line address/model designation on the left side and a "crown/GP" proof on each side. Gold washed trigger with selector mounted in it, tang mounted automatic safety with gold "SAFE" and mounted with an extra fancy triple X, highly figured American walnut pistol grip stock with fancy Fleur-de-Lis checkering, engraved grip cap with gold inlaid "GRAND / AMERICAN", solid, leather wrapped recoil pad and gold initial oval. Complete with a leather bound hard case with maroon lining, Winchester label affixed to the inside of the lid, canvas cover and two snap caps. The accompanying copy of the U.S. Repeating Arms Company letter states that the gun was completed on September 4, 1975 as a Grand American. The letter verifies the gauge, 28" barrel choked improved cylinder and modified with vent rib, the 26" barrels choked cylinder and improved cylinder, 3" chambers and 21-6 Grand American engraving with gold inlays.
