Exceptional Winchester Model 1892 Take-Down 44-40 Lever Action Rifle
This is an exceptional example of a Winchester Model 1892 Take-Down Lever Action Rifle that was manufactured in 1917. The rifle has the desirable octagon barrel and full-length magazine. The stock and forearm are varnished walnut with a blued forearm cap and crescent steel buttplate. The barrel is fitted with a blade front sight with set screw and patent markings and a sporting style rear sight. The rifle has a full blue finish. The left side of the barrel is roll-stamped with the two-line legend: "MANUFACTURED BY THE WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO./NEW HAVEN. CONN. U.S.A.PATENTED OCTOBER 14. 1884." ahead of the rear sight and "44 W.C.F." behind it. The oval Winchester "WP" proofmark is stamped on the top barrel flat and the top of the receiver. The upper receiver tang is roll-stamped: "MODEL 1892/-WINCHESTER-/TRADE MARK. REG.U.S.PAT. OFF. & FGN." in three lines. The serial number, "858380" is roll stamped across the lower portion of the receiver.

Condition: Excellent plus. The rifle retains 97% of the original blue finish. Wear is limited to some very minor handling marks and some scattered flaking on the sides and bottom of the receiver. The markings are crisp. The stock and forearm are in excellent plus condition with almost no handling wear. This is an exceptional example of a Model 1892 Winchester rifle with the very desirable take-down feature as well as the 44-40 caliber.
