This is an exceptionally nice early, all original, all matching WWII G98/40 service rifle. These rifles were originally manufactured during the early part of WWII as the Hungarian model 35, at the Metal Goods and Weapons Factory, Budapest, Hungary. After the take over of the Hungarian factory by the Germans these rifles were designated the model G98/40 and the factory was given the wartime code of "jhv". This rifle is similar in function and operation to the standard K98 rifle with nearly identical front and rear sights, making training and reissue very easy. The top of the receiver is marked "jhv/41" the wartime code for the Hungarian factory and 1941 for the year of manufacture. The left receiver side wall is marked "G98/40" and the left side of the receiver and barrel have the large German Eagle firing proof. There are two large "Eagle/56" proofs on the right side of the receiver, and nearly every part, including the stock, forend and handguard, have either an "Eagle/56" or "Eagle/WaA56" proof mark. The forend is marked in front of the trigger guard, the buttstock is marked in the pistol grip area and on the bottom lower area with these proofs, along with the matching serial number and additional "jhv" code, and is marked on the right side below the sling slot cutout with two more "Eagle/WaA56" proofs. The handguard is marked on the top near the rear sight with the "Eagle/WaA56" proof as well. This rifle has the original cleaning rod which is serial numbered to the gun, and an original rubber muzzle cap. It is complete with an original leather cross hatched sling, ink stamped on the rough side "gtg/1942" and further along the sling "Kar." The original front sight hood is intact.
