This is an excellent example of a WWII Japanese Type 2 "Paratrooper" rifle. These rifles were based on the Type 99 rifle series and were designed to have a removable barrel so that they could be stored in a canvas parachutist's jump bag for use by Paratroopers. These rifles were manufactured at the Toriimatsu factory under control of the Nagoya Arsenal. The top of the receiver has the Chrysanthemum (which is visible, but struck twice) over the Kanji markings for type "2/ Rifle". The receiver side wall is stamped with the late serial number (12139) along with the Nagoya arsenal factory mark, with both halves of the take down mechanism (breech and receiver) having the same matching assembly number of 29. It has the later production tangent peep rear sight graduated from 400-1,500 meters with the thin anti-aircraft wings, with an inverted "V" front sight with guards. The front barrel band is the two screw model and the rear is the later plain slotted pattern. It has the correct plum shaped pattern bolt. It is fitted with the late war two-piece hardwood stock with a one piece handguard. The stock has the correct side mounted sling swivels with the drain hole in front of the trigger guard and a cupped steel buttplate. This rifle is complete with an early type 30 hook bayonet and scabbard.

Mechanically excellent. The bayonet and scabbard are both good overall with traces of the blue finish remaining on the scabbard.
