Exceptional WWII German G41 duv 43 Code Semi-Automatic Sniper Rifle with Desirable Double Leg Stra
This is an early example of very desirable G41rifle as produced by the Berlin-Lubecker company, that has been fitted with one of the desirable reproduction double leg straddle mounts that has been fitted with an original early production ZF-40 scope. Original straddle mounts are extremely rare and are virtually unheard of in today's collections. They are only noted or pictured in some of the early G41 rifle manuals or factory literature in the 1940/41 time frame with one or two original examples in large Military museums today. This rifle is fitted with a excellent example of a current reproduction of what one of these rare mounts would look like. It has the double legs that slide onto or across the rear sight base that has a single large locking lever on the right side. It is completely machined and is fitted with a very early ZF40-41/1 scope that was manufactured by the Opticotechna factory in Czechoslovakia and carries the correct "dow" manufacturer's code. The side of the mount is marked on the left side with only "D-01". The rifle itself was produced early on in the production cycle of the G41/G43 Series of semi-automatic rifle with an estimated total production of less than 10000 before all production switched to the standard G43 series of rifles. These early G41 series of rifles used the "Bang Gas-Trap" system which employed a barrel mounted "Gas Trap" muzzle cone to trap hot gas that bleed off when the round was fired and which cycled the action. This entire series of rifles was very short lived and they saw extensive use on the Eastern Front where a semi-automatic rifle was considered essential for "long-life". Consequently, their survival rate is very low in any condition. The later series of G/K43 rifles was far more reliable and easier to produce, based on the use of a barrel mounted gas system. This rifle has the very early Type 1 receiver and associated parts with components that were mostly all machined, blued and beautifully finished. The left side of the receiver is marked with the large "G41 duv 43, Eagle / 214" followed by the serial number 9603e. In addition to the receiver it has the all machined bolt and bolt carrier, and early all machined action cover. The trigger guard and box magazine are the correct stamped wartime versions. The stock is the correct matching wartime laminated model that is marked on the right side with a double "eagle/ 214" Waffenamt proof and a single "eagle/ 214" Waffenamt proof in the pistol grip area and the matching serial number on the underside of the stock. The rifle is equipped with the early production black phenolic resin (plastic ) handguard as manufactured in 1941/42 that is correctly marked inside with the "PAG", 2270 and 45, proofmarks which were the wartime markings of the "Prague Essen Werkes". The rifle is complete with an original cleaning rod, an original front sight cover and a 98K bayonet, marked "42 ESW" with a blued unmarked metal scabbard and original leather frog, with an illegible manufacturer's code and markings on the back side.
